Michael Lofaso Music

Michael Lofaso is an award winning film score composer and pianist based in Los Angeles. He is known for his diverse musical language, working in styles that range from classical to jazz, popular to electronic, and often blending the lines between each.

Michael has worked on a number of films and shows for television, streaming platforms and movie theaters. He works at Hans Zimmer’s Remote Control Productions with composer Guillaume Roussel (Disney’s Black Beauty). Michael recently composed music for the television series Marie-Antoinette (PBS, BBC, Canal+), as well as the Netflix Original Series FURIES. He also wrote music for Director Ashley Avis’ documentary Wild Beauty: Mustang Spirit of the West. Other recent projects include The Expendables 4 starring Sylvester Stallone, LIFT (Netflix) with Kevin Hart, The Takedown (Netflix) and the Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan.

Working with Earworm Music Co. and composer JP Rende (Sesame Street), Michael scored music for the Netflix cartoon “Starbeam.” He was a keyboard tech and music coach for the CW television series “Katy Keene. He has performed at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center’s David Geffen Hall, while his own music has been performed worldwide. In 2015, he collaborated with the talented Derrick Davis (of Broadway’s The Lion King and Phantom of the Opera), composing string arrangements and playing piano on Davis’ concept album LIFE MUSIC.

Born and raised in Manhattan, Michael began studying classical and jazz piano at an early age. After starting piano lessons with his father, he continued a wide range of music studies at the Third Street Music School Settlement, as well as receiving a scholarship to study at the Adamant Music School in Vermont. Michael attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, majoring in music. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the Aaron Copland School of Music, majoring in Music Composition and minoring in Recording and Production. He has also participated in the Society of Composers and Lyricists Mentorship Program, as well as BMI’s Composing for the Screen Film Scoring Mentorship. Michael was invited to be in ASCAP’s Composer Spotlight for the 2020 ASCAP/Columbia University Film Scoring Workshop and recently participated in a mentorship under composer Trevor Morris (Vikings).

Michael is a 3-time award winner of the ASCAP Foundation’s Irving Caesar Scholarship in recognition of his music compositions. He has been recognized as a finalist in the ASCAP Foundation Morton Gould Young Composer's Awards, as well as receiving an honorable mention in the Eastman School of Music’s Hanson Young Composer Competition.
